Adapting to reality in times of crisis
by using digital solutions

Even before the Dutch government implemented the semi-lockdown and made an appeal to all companies to work from home as much as possible, Euro Nordic started to facilitate this as much as possible for its employees. The starting point was to limit the risk of contamination for employees, so that we could keep on servicing our customers. Kees Groeneveld, CEO at Euro Nordic and Andre Schravesande, General Manager Agencies, elaborate.

Every month, Euro Nordic handles approximately more than 250 ships in various Dutch ports. An efficient port call is crucial for the delivery of all kinds of cargo. From the start of the Corona crisis, our colleagues have put everything into place to ensure the free passage of ships and goods.

Stronger together
In our Rotterdam office this was done by staying in touch with local authorities and various port related stakeholders, including the Association of Ship brokers and Agents Rotterdam (VRC). Kees Groeneveld is also chairman of the VRC and actively participated in these talks. Preventing the wild growth of individual measures by companies was central. Shipowners, agents and other stakeholders were provided with the correct information from one single source. And with a great outcome. Compared to other European seaports, the effects of the Corona measures are limited in Rotterdam.

Kees Groeneveld clarifies: “Our team is often in touch with our customers to discuss local developments in light of the Corona crisis. Many ports apply extremely strict measures. In particular, the limitation or prohibition of a crew change. It is them who are responsible for the smooth transit of all kinds of necessary goods for the economy. With no prospect of rapid reunification with their families, they are now forced to stay on board for months longer. We therefore hope that our lobbying work will ensure that these measures are quickly lifted for this profession”.

IT-ready & savvy
Currently, the majority of the Euro Nordic team works from home. Our IT specialists have been very swift and have provided colleagues with the right equipment and software. In addition, they have scaled up the capacity of various systems. Our colleagues make intensive use of MS Team, which ensures good mutual communication as well as a strong team feeling. At the Euro Nordic headquarters, a team is available 24/7 for administrative work and necessary visits on board of ships.
